The Legacy Forums™ - Identifying, Assessing, Growing and Protecting The Individual Human and Family Capital Portfolios

"We spent decades accumulating financial capital, only to realize belatedly that we had neglected investing in our family capital.  The sustainability of the former is ultimately determined by the latter".

The Foundations of Legacy™â€‹â€‹

The Foundations of Legacy™ is our signature individual and family program that begins the process of working with The Legacy Forum™ in our Family PEOPLE Office™.  This is the entrance process where we work through setting up your Family PEOPLE Office™.  This initial process takes approximately twelve months and in many ways is similar to how a Family FINANCIAL Office is constructed.

When a family reaches a level of financial wealth where they have a minimum of $100 million in Assets Under Management (AUM), many choose to create a Family Office.  Those with less either work with a Wealth Advisor or are part of a Multi-Family Office.

The Interview Process and Criterion for Acceptance into The Family PEOPLE Office and The Foundations of Legacy Program

  1. The Informational Discussion.  Once you call The Legacy Forum, our Corporate Concierge will schedule a time for you for the entire program to be described and discussed.  (60-90 minutes)

  1. The Prospective Client Interview.  If you elect to continue, a determination must be made as to your suitability for membership in The Family PEOPLE Office and entrance into The Foundations of Legacy™ program.  This interview process consists of three major interview sessions and one final session where a determination regarding your "fit" will be made.  â€‹â€‹The interview process takes approximately one month. Each interview session takes about 90-120 minutes.  Various profiles and exercises will be performed by you in-between sessions.  If during the final session a mutual determination is made for you to continue on and participate in The Foundations of Legacy™, our Corporate Concierge will take you through the enrollment process and schedule a start date.

There are times and situations in our lives when we need to talk, really talk.  We need to make decisions that determine the course of our lives.  There are issues which demand more than just an hour or two thinking through a next move but issues which when I make the decision I will know I have worked through it fully. There are issues which are weighty, will have wide-ranging and consequential outcomes.

There are issues such as:

  • Succession - Who will be the best person to take the reigns of the family business?  How will the decision be thoroughly examined with all distractions sidelined?  Where to find a place where all countless voices seeking to influence the choice are silenced?  Where can the options be assessed and greater clarity be found?  Where can a non-interested, expert Advisor(s) be found that is not rushed, biased, or have some advantage from the ultimate decision, work slowly, thoughtfully and with the highest level of confidentiality?

  • Possible Retirement and Beyond - When is the optimal time to hand over the reigns of control?  What are the psychological factors and emotions I am and will encounter when I make the decision?  What are the psychological barriers holding me back from willingly handing over control of what I started, created, and have made a great success?  What are my greatest fears related to my physical health, social position, realization that life has transitions and death is a reality?  How do I explain my decision?  Don't most men die soon after they retire?  What is next, my options, my bucket list, my opportunities?  What will my first day of retirement look and feel like?

There are countless questions and situations just like these two major issues.  The question is where and how can I find a place and some one who can help me?  The outcome of this decision could be worth millions of dollars gained or lost.  People's lives deeply affected.

The Legacy Forum™ and Family PEOPLE Office™ have created just what you need to accomplish your goal.  We have found a place to talk and work through your decisions where there are no distractions, unless you choose them,   The Cunard Lines Trans-Atlantic, 7-day cruise on the Queen Anne or Queen Elizabeth II, allows us to talk without the rush or distractions of life, all in old world elegance.  Legacy Advisors who are wise and highly trained in the art of decision-making will be available to talk at your convenience.  â€‹

The Legacy Nexus - The Rising Generation

The future of wealth management will be significantly shaped by the Rising Generation. A prevalent concern is that many individuals within this group are not adequately prepared for the responsibilities of inheritance, succession, or personal growth. In numerous cases, the wealth being transferred may not be in secure or stable hands, raising questions about long-term stewardship.

Understanding the Rising Generation

The Rising Generation encompasses Millennials and Gen Z, spanning the ages of 18 to 40. While these generations are often grouped together, it is important to recognize their distinct perspectives on life and wealth. Their worldviews differ markedly, as do their approaches to managing and valuing wealth.

The Impact of Inherited Wealth

One significant, often unspoken fear is the potential impact of wealth on those who were not involved in its creation. Many inheritors tend to be more risk-averse and may receive their inheritance lacking essential life experiences, a clear understanding of work, or a sense of meaning and purpose in their own lives. The responsibility of controlling and spending wealth that they did not directly produce introduces a range of psychological, social, and practical challenges.

Gen Z: Unique Challenges and Considerations

The challenges intensify when focusing on Gen Z. According to renowned social psychologist and author Jonathan Haidt, the effect of social media on Gen Z represents "the greatest destruction of human capital in human history," leading to what he describes as "The Anxious Generation." This characterization highlights the complexities Gen Z faces as they prepare to manage substantial inherited wealth.

Preparing for the Future

Critical questions arise: How will this major segment of the Rising Generation handle the immense wealth directed their way? What are the potential risks, and how might these be mitigated? The Legacy Forum™ anticipates that its Legacy Quest FORUM™ and Advisors will need to operate with agility and innovation, utilizing both high-tech and high-touch approaches. Advisors will be experts in Gen Z, equipped with specialized training and exceptional qualifications to support beneficiaries in navigating these unprecedented challenges.
